Smoking: Break the Habit?

Hello! our previous post mentioned the possibility of a designated smoking area that can be found within the school grounds. At RP Daily, we try to keep an open and neutral mind on all subjects that may or may not oppose our own principles. Thus, this post will be about cutting the habit of smoking instead.

Smoking is a bad habit. It is unhealthy and while difficult to drop,it is most definitely a habit that can be stopped with constant dedication and willpower.

Above is a diagram of the human body and the different effects nicotine has on the different organs. Nicotine has both short-term and long-term negative effects on the human body. As is seen on the Health Promotion Board website(https://www.hpb.gov.sg/HOPPortal/health-article/432);

"Tobacco use kills 5.4 million people a year worldwide - an average of one person every six seconds - and accounts for one in 10 adult deaths worldwide. It kills up to half of all users. Most of tobacco's damage to health does not become evident until years or even decades after the onset of use. So, while tobacco use is rising globally, the epidemic of tobacco-related disease and death has yet to reach its peak."

There are several ways smokers can stop their habit.
1)Temporarily substituting cigarettes with nicotine gums.
2)Halving the cigarette consumption you already have, or gradually reducing the number of times you smoke within a day.

Please write in the comments section below your experiences in cutting your smoking habits and the struggles you had to deal with.

Drop That Fag (Into The Rubbish Bin)

Hello and welcome to the new RP news website! the first post we have today unfortunately has to do with the issue of littering within the school premises.

This particular case of littering involves cigarette butts which not only is unsightly but produces a very strong smell along the school corridors.Moreover, the second-hand smoke inhaled by passersby is harmful and is thus disruptive to both smokers and non-smokers alike.

The first case of this littering issue came in on the 19th of June 2015. Cigarette butts were found dumped all along the sides of the staircases by students.

While the school has no right to stop students from their smoking habits, it is essential that the student body practice basic courtesy and throw their cigarette butt remains into designated rubbish bins that can be seen all around the campus.

While smoking is bad, I am of the opinion that there should be 1 smoking area placed within the school campus so as to prevent students from leaving the campus and possibly playing truant.If you agree or disagree with this stand, please participate in the poll found on the website!
